On Friday, Nov. 25, the 5th Street Public Market kicked off its holiday Night of 1,000 Stars, event near Downtown Eugene. Each night includes a visit from Santa Claus himself, a snow flurry and festive Christmas lights. The event runs from Nov. 25 to Dec. 23 and is located at 296 E 5th Ave, Eugene.

The 5th Street Market block is adorned with twinkling lights and festive decorations. In the main square live musicians perform their set of Christmas music.

At 6 p.m. they begin lighting the tree, and Santa makes a guest appearance. A couple in front of Inn at the 5th  said that this event “truly puts them in the holiday mood.” Children grow excited by Santa’s appearance as he makes his way to the crowd, greeting families.

Overhead, snow machines send a sprinkling of imitation snow to add to the wintery atmosphere. The snow is “just soap!” according to several children’s accounts. The Night of 1,000 Stars event has been going on since 2004 and is a way for people of all ages to get in the holiday mood with friends and loved ones.
