Every Sunday, Treylon Day of DayInTheLife Entertainment LLC hosts a Sunday Supper with local chef and author Mia Multiplied at the WildCraft Cider Works’ upstairs balcony. Day is a Lane Community College alumni and former president of the campus’ Black Student Union.  

The Sunday Supper is a quaint event, hosting on average 18 people. The space has a max capacity of 30 individuals. 

“We are hosting a banquet style buffet where people can try the recipes in Mia Multiplied’s book, ‘The Alternative Eatery Cookbook,’” Day said.  

The cookbook consists of vegan recipes with soul food roots. In the book there are recipes for tofu bacon, alternative boneless BBQ ribs and fried chicken tenders, among many others. The menu, on May 30, consisted of vegan broiled fish, red beans and rice, mac and cheese, split pea soup, and a hummus and olive appetizer.  

Mia Multiplied has written and published 17 books. “The Alternative Eatery Cookbook” is her first publication focusing on food. “I woke up one morning and the thought just came to my head to write this cookbook,” Multiplied said. She said she has two more cookbooks in the works.  

One of the more interesting recipes offered in the cookbook is deep-fried catfish made with banana blossoms. When asked what a banana blossom is, Mia Multiplied replied, “it’s just a banana flower from the tree, before it turns into being a banana.” She says the alternative deep fried catfish is her signature dish.  

“What I started doing because of this book is going to markets and picking up cans of stuff I’ve never tried before,” Multiplied said. “Here in America we eat X, Y and Z and we have no idea what it is.” 

“Our bodies take plants a lot better than meat, it’s what our bodies are made to do,” Multiplied added. “You don’t have to say you’re a vegan, I just say alternative. Just start eating more plants and you can make them taste like what you’re used to eating.”
