To our readers,

It is an honor to be appointed the new editor-in-chief at The Torch. Our outgoing editor, Chandlor Henderson, held the Torch together throughout the pandemic. He helped in the transition from a physical paper to an online publication and I look forward to continuing that work. Several of our team members graduated last year and I look forward to building the team back up. We will continue the Torch standard of due diligence and honest journalism.

I began writing for the Torch during spring term last year. Chandlor saw potential in my writing and passion for local issues and asked me to join. I am very grateful for him taking a chance on me and I hope to live up to the expectations.

Last year the Torch took home several awards from the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association including first place for best feature story and first place for best review. Congratulations to reporter Michael Stahler. I am hoping that through recruiting new team members and providing them with the tools to succeed that we will be able to receive another round of accolades.

Journalism is about finding and sharing the truth. The Torch is no exception. We are here to hold your elected student leaders and school board members accountable. We are here to share your achievements and stories. Our team of writers and photographers is dedicated to the students of this community college, you hold us accountable.

Thank you Lane community for putting your trust in me and my team to lead the Torch through another successful term. I look forward to the work and I look forward to sharing your stories.
