The Torch is the award-winning student-run newspaper of Lane Community College and was founded in 1964 during the school’s inaugural days. Formerly a physical newspaper with weekly print editions, the editorial staff ceased print production and transitioned to a primarily online platform beginning in 2020 with articles posted daily.
Staying true to its mission of reporting ”stories that matter” to the LCC community, The Torch has always been committed to reporting the latest in events happening on- and off-campus, the college administration and student government, Titans sports, various on-campus services and more.
Through the decades The Torch has received numerous awards from the Pacific Northwest Association of Journalism Educators, the Associated Collegiate Press, the American Scholastic Press Association and the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association. Most recently, in 2019, The Torch was awarded First Place in General Excellence for the Collegiate Newspaper Contest by the ONPA and the Oregon Newspapers Foundation.
