Know Your Rights Workshop at LCC

by Agostinho Da Silva

Lane Community College’s Student Government Association will be holding a Know Your Rights Workshop 2 pm Tuesday, Feb.17 at the Multicultural Center on LCCs Main Campus.

The main goal of the workshop is to inform students on their rights, according to the SGA, and to help ensure LCC students aren’t bullied or coerced into conversation with officials that may incriminate themselves or others during this unprecedented time in our community.

The workshop is in collaboration with LCC’s MEChA, Asian Pacific Islander Student Union and Native American Student Alliance.

The SGA says it is also working to organize a second workshop sometime in the near future to educate LCC students on legal and safe protesting. Both of these workshops are being held to prepare for a gathering of the entire Associated Students of Lane Community College in March to protest recent ICE activity in Lane County.

LCC’s Public Safety has been notified, and will be present during the workshops to ensure students feel safe to attend, says SGA Senator Alejandro Ramirez.
