What you need to know before you walk across that stage
By Kat Tabor
Whatever comes next for you, Lane Community College is ready to celebrate. And this year, the school is also honoring the people who helped you get there — because let’s be honest, it takes a village to walk across that stage.
The college’s 60th annual commencement ceremony is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, in the LCC gymnasium (Building 5). Can’t attend in person? No problem — the event will be livestreamed so Grandma can still cry happy tears from across the country.
This year’s ceremony will carry a more personal tone, according to Beccah Maley, director of student life and leadership.
“This is the 60th commencement. It’s a really fun time,” Maley said. “We actually have little pins that we’re giving to students to give to their favorite faculty member or a family member.”
The goal, she said, is to recognize the community behind each graduate.
“We’re celebrating the students, but they didn’t do this alone. We want to encourage students to honor the folks who helped them get to that special day.”
Here’s what you need to know:
- Caps and gowns are available at the Titan Store starting mid-April. If you missed the May 22 shipping deadline through Jostens, don’t worry — you can still pick one up in person.
- Check-in starts at 8:30 a.m. June 14 in Building 30, first floor. That’s where you’ll get your name card and line up with your program.
- Leave bags at home. There’s no coat check, and no one wants to hear your backpack jingling during “Pomp and Circumstance.”
- Overflow seating will be available in the Center Building. The livestream will be available at lanecc.edu.
- Shuttles (yes, golf carts) will loop between parking lots A and B. Lot B is closest to the gym.
- Need accommodations? Contact the Center for Accessible Resources in advance to make arrangements.
- Restrooms will be open in both Building 5 and the Center Building.
- Forgot a gift? The Titan Store and J&J Java will be open for snacks, drinks and last-minute surprises. You can even preorder flowers if you’re going for the full Pinterest moment.
