Jim Moore, coach of Lane’s volleyball team, poses just before heading off to the championships on Nov. 20. Moore is a three-time national coach of the year, and has worked with the University of Oregon. In 2017, he worked with Churchill High School prior to being hired at Lane in 2019.

New coach finishes with winning record

Jim Moore is Lane’s Volleyball coach. He’s coached various teams across the country for over 40 years and played himself at California State University Long Beach where he earned a degree in health science.

Moore’s career coaching record is 598-288 and has earned him the National Coach of the Year award three times. His career accomplishments include having coached those who have become Olympians, national team members and All-Americans.

Before arriving in Eugene, Moore had served as head coach for Northern Michigan University, Kansas State University, the University of Texas, and California State University Chico. He then coached at the University of Oregon for 12 years and helped take them to championships 10 out of those 12 years.

Lane’s Athletic Director Greg Sheley offered the job to Moore when the previous coach left, “I’m extremely excited about what Jim has brought to our department. It’s so great to see athletes not only coached to be good players but good people on our campus and in our communities as well.” Sheley said.

Moore recently took the Titans to the 2019 NWAC championships where they placed third. Overall, the team ended the season with a record of 26-11 and were the Co-South Region Champions.

This is Moore’s first time coaching at a two-year school, and he plans on staying at Lane for the foreseeable future. Stacy Metro, Jim Moore’s wife, served as his Assistant Coach at the University of Oregon. Metro now works as the head coach at Western Oregon University. The couple plans to work together for the mutual benefits of their teams.
