This week the SGA (Student Government Association), the BSU (Black Student Union), the Poetry Club Alliance and PTK (Phi Theta Kappa) will be hosting events this week on campus. These events are sponsored in the hope to facilitate student engagement and community awareness. 

Tuesday, 05/14/24, a finance event will be held from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the second floor of the center building, hosted by the SGA with representatives from OCCU (Oregon Community Credit Union). This is a free event which will serve refreshments. Because of the current economic climate, it is more important than ever to be proactive about managing your finances and planning for your future,” says Marie Moneyang (SGA), “We hope to equip you with ways to combat financial challenges and make informed decisions about your money.”

Tuesday, 05/14/24 at 2 p.m. The Poetry Club Alliance will also be hosting a poetry reading and discussion event in preparation for the upcoming University of Oregon undergraduate symposium located in the library, room 229. The poetry club alliance hopes to attract students that enjoy literary works and discussion, and to support students that wish to share their poetry.

Friday, 05/17/24 at 1 p.m. the BSU and G.R.I.O.T (Greatness Rediscovered In Our Time) in collaboration with the United Way Lane County, will be hosting an event on the topic of “Centering Student Success in the Era of A.I.” Dr. Jamal Cooks, Pres. of Chabot College, addressing topics of leadership development, with conversations on the retention and recruitment of minoritized students. This event will be held at LCC’s (Lane Community College) Multicultural Center refreshments will be served, students and staff are encouraged to attend.

Friday, 05/17/24 –  Saturday, 05/18/24, PTK (Phi Theta Kappa) Sigma Zeta chapter at LCC will be hosting this year’s PTK Rocky Mountain-Cascade Regional Event. The mission of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize academic achievement of college students and to provide opportunities for them to grow as scholars and leaders their work involves providing support for the continued success of the nation’s top community college students, while also working to support and strengthen the nation’s community colleges through the following three commitments. This is not a free event however, members are encouraged to attend, discounts and deferrals are available.
