At times the hardest part of homework is convincing yourself to actually start it. Sometimes the best hack is getting out and changing your environment, and luckily Eugene has plenty of local coffee shops that are perfect for studying!
Whether you’re working on discussion posts, writing a paper, or trying to survive finals week, here are four coffee shops that are worth checking out.
Best for an All Day Study Session: Vero Espresso House
If you’ve never been to Vero, it should definitely be on your list.
The café is inside a converted house, which gives it a cozy, comfortable feel that you don’t get at a typical coffee chain.
One Google review states: “Vero has become my favorite coffee/espresso place in town. I love the relaxed atmosphere, the excellent lattes and good food options. A great place to hang out, enjoy a coffee, catch up with friends and/or do some (home)work. If you haven’t visited yet, I highly recommend that you swing by and give Vero a try.”
Students and remote workers alike appreciate the relaxed atmosphere, and it’s common to see people camped out with laptops and textbooks. If you’re planning to knock out a few assignments or spend an afternoon studying, Vero is probably your best bet.

Best for Writing Papers: Café Perugino
Sometimes you just need somewhere quiet where you can put your headphones on and focus.
Café Perugino has a calm atmosphere that’s great for reading, writing, or working through a project without a lot of distractions. The cafés interior features Persian rugs, rich colors, and décor that many people describe as having a Middle Eastern or Moroccan feel, and comfortable seating that makes it easy to stay awhile. Kaz Oveissi, owner of Café Perugino, was also the owner of an Oriental rug company that closed in 2016.
Oveissi said that every rug throughout the space is authentic. He explained that beyond adding character, the rugs help absorb sound creating quiet acoustics that have become an essential part of the café atmosphere.
Reviewers consistently mention the friendly staff, great espresso and peaceful environment. It’s also known for its paninis and pastries, so if you’re hungry halfway through your study session, you’re covered.

Best for Group Projects: Dark Pine Coffee
Group projects are usually more enjoyable when you’re somewhere that actually has room for everyone.
Dark Pine Coffee has a large, modern space with larger tables that work well for meeting classmates. It doesn’t feel overly quiet, but it’s also not so loud that you can’t hear each other talk.
The atmosphere is laid back and comfortable, with leather sofas lining the wall. One Google review states simply: “Great coffee. Great music. Fast internet. Comfy couches. Excellent music. If you’re looking for a place that just feels good to study in, Meraki is worth visiting.
