On a rainy mid-morning in front of the Center Building on Feb. 7, Kevin Alltucker announced his campaign for LCC school board. School board member Rosemary Pryor will be retiring and she endorsed Alltucker to be her replacement.

Pryor introduced Alltucker at his announcement, praising his work with non-profits like Relief Nursery and Kids First. She stated that Alltucker was awarded the Distinguished Alumni of LCC in 2011. He attended Lane in 1978 and went on to get a degree in construction engineering from the University of Oregon. Alltucker was a professor at UO and focused on reforms in education and child welfare.

Alltucker joked that he registered today to run. He said he expected a big line of candidates but there was no one there. He has “three planks” to focus on if he gets elected. His first, written on his campaign signs, is “Access for All.”

“I want to work with the president, the board, faculty, staff, and students to make LCC better than it is.” He mentioned the work he has done with marginalized communities and recognized the importance of access to community college for all people.

His second plank was supporting all students. Students, according to the candidate, need emotional, financial and educational support to thrive in school. His third plank was to recognize the new understanding of globalization. Coming out of the pandemic he explained that supply chains are a serious issue. The new method is to lean on local manufacturing and local supply chains. He believes that LCC is perfectly situated to help the greater Lane community have a focus on local and regional manufacturing.

Alltucker is running for Pryor’s seat position 6, elections will be held on May 16, 2023.
