On March 14, 2023, the LCC Library will be hosting an Open Educational Services event giveaway of Ramen noodles at Study-Jam 2:00 p.m. -4:00 p.m. The event is to bring awareness to food insecurity among students. The average cost of books and supplies are estimated at about $1,460.00 per year according to the College Board and the Ramen cases demonstrate that visually. The ramen pyramid is on display outside of the library in the Center Building. In support of the need to address this issue, many instructors are adopting free textbooks online as a resource for students in recognition of the reality of this issue.

According to Meggie Wright, LCC’s Reference Librarian who is the architect of this display, “I wanted to find a way to help people visualize the impact of textbook costs on students, and used food because many community college students are also facing food insecurity. I think it’s fair to say that reducing textbook costs can have a substantial impact on students’ lives, and that’s what I was hoping the ramen would demonstrate.”
