The Lane women’s basketball team took down Clackamas Saturday night 69-64, completing a season sweep over the Cougars. Lane (19-5, 8-3) will look to get another win Wednesday in Coos Bay against the Southwestern Oregon Lakers (9-14, 3-7).

All five Titan starters scored double-digits on the night. Led by sophomore Kalina Rojas who finished with 14 points, and 12 rebounds, as well as freshman Kendra McAninch who added 11 points 6 rebounds, and 8 assists.

The Titans scored first, and after knocking down a quick jumper, they would hold the lead for the remainder of the night. Dominating the first quarter, Lane shot 47% from the field and jumped out to an early 23-9 lead over the Cougars.

Clackamas answered back in the second quarter with a 13-2 run reducing the Titan lead to six. Cougar guard Paige Downer spirited the run scoring 9 of her 14 points for the game in the period. While the Titans only shot 4 of 14 from the field, they managed to stop the bleeding and took a 36-28 lead into the half.

Both teams struggled to score throughout the third with only 24 total points scored in the quarter. The Titans finished the third getting five big points off the bench from Maddie Bertsch to help push the lead to 10 going into the fourth.  

Clackamas cut into the lead with a late 7-2 run to make it a two-possession game in the final two minutes. Despite only making 4 of 10 free throws in the final minute the Titans held on for the five point victory. 

Saturday’s win put Lane in a three-way tie with Mt. Hood, and Clackamas for second place in the Southern Division. The Titans hold the tie-breaker over Clackamas after completing the season sweep of the Cougars and will match up with Mt. Hood (16-7, 8-3) on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Titan Coliseum.
