The City of Eugene is investing $1.1 million to address the ongoing crisis of unhoused community members. According to a report issued by the Eugene Chamber of Commerce in Sep. 2021 there were over 3,000 unhoused people in Eugene. As of Aug. 2021 only 42 people were moved into housing. In response to this issue the city is requesting proposals for a new affordable housing project.

In 2021, Eugene approved a $300,000 trust fund as seed money to build a 122 unit housing project on Garden Way. These units will be available to those making no more than 60% of area median income, with a few units reserved for victims of domestic violence.

For this new project, the city is looking for proposals under $370,000 that fit the criteria of the application, such as: be located in Eugene, include at least four dwellings, and at least 5% of units must be accessible for people with mobility and sensory challenges. Formal letters of interest must be submitted by Feb. 17 and the full application completed by March 17.
