May 1, 2024

Voting for Lane Student Government elections will be open from May 26 until May 28. Although the candidates are running unopposed there are important changes to be voted on that will effect your student fees. The results will be announced on June 1. The 2021 voters pamphlet can be accessed here

Six candidates — the majority of which already hold seats in student government — are running unopposed. All six candidates are running for Student Government Senate which normally consists of eight members: Jeremiah Vandagrift, Konel Memey Kwaleso, Jiles-Christ N’gbesso, Shana Weiland, Timur Turganov and Yevgeniy Kim.

Vandagrift is running for SGA president. He is also running for Student Activities Fee Committee chair. This is his third year at LCC and he is currently the president pro-tempore for Lane Student Government Senate. He is running on a platform of ensuring that students are treated fairly and are being heard.

Kwaleso, who is also running for a senate seat, wants to represent international students. She is originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo and hopes to use that experience to bridge the gap between international students and the SGA.

Weiland, running for a senate seat and Student Activities Fee Member at Large, hopes to use his three years of SGA experience to fight for transparency in student fees and to continue to speak up at Board of Education meetings as a student voice.

N’gbesso, running for another senate seat, considers himself an open-minded person who wants to help others.

Turganov wants to continue using his communication skills to help make connections for students.

Kim has been on SGA for a few terms and wants to continue to help and serve Lane students as a senator.

There are also several proposed changes to the SGA Constitution: clarifying how many positions one person can hold, making the Vice President backup chair for the Student Activity Fee Committee, and  the Student Government operating costs will now be a distinct fee from the Student Activities Fee Committee.

This fee can be voted on every year during elections if ratified in the constitution.

Students will be notified via email starting May 26.
